Background: In 1990, the World Health Organization decided to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. In 2004, French academic Louis-Georges Tin made May 17 the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, which has since become a global movement. Today, we observe this tradition and hope for the day when people no longer need to live in fear because of their sexualities.Theme: This year, the 7th IDAHO’s theme is “Born this Way”. On this day we hope to eradicate all discrimination though love and assimilation. Although everyone is unique, we are created equal and we enjoy the same basic human rights: the right to marry, the right to adopt a child, the right to public housing, the right to enjoy tax deductions. But have you considered that some of us do not enjoy these basic rights? And the reason why is just because some are born with different instincts from others, so they are not recognized as part of the “mainstream”. How can we bear such inequality?
Can we just keep quiet and accept it? No, no way. On May 15, 2011, we celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. On this day, we gather to fight for our basic rights.
