Farzana was called to the Bar in 1993 and practiced from Chambers in London for a period of 7 years (Chambers of James Guthrie Q.C., 3 Hare Court, Middle Temple). In 2001 she joined the in-house legal team at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong as Head of Employment Law for Asia. In this capacity she advised and coached senior leadership on legal and HR strategy and risk relating to employment and diversity issues across the Asia Pacific region.
Prior to joining Hong Kong University, she held teaching posts at the London School of Economics (Commercial Law) and City University of Hong Kong (PCLL Company Law).
Farzana was appointed Rapporteur for England and Wales to the European Commission on ‘Whistleblowing and its Impact on Fraud in the EU’ (1993). She served as a Trustee for Public Concern at Work (1994-2000), an Executive Committee member of Amnesty International Hong Kong (AIHK), and Convenor of the AIHK Human Resources Sub-Committee (2007-2008). In 2008 she was appointed as First Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee to the Hong Kong Refugee Advice Centre.
